Making choices and doing research
After doing 3 days of telemarketing for four hours a day and coming up with one possible lead that only wanted to review our material and not speak with a specialist, I began to really question whether cold calling was going to work for me in the sales position that I chose. I just had a difficult time seeing the numbers as I called multiple fax machines and wrong numbers on my third day. I didn't mind the rejection, but I found myself bored out of my mind and falling asleep when I was sitting down. I was more focused on jogging on my treadmill when I was at my treadmill desk.
So, I made a decision yesterday, to suck it up and get to work creating content. I love writing. I don't really even mind researching or doing videos so much. I have gotten my content ranked on google before. It is something that I am confident that I can accomplish. My biggest mistake before was trying to promote myself as a coach before I had confidence in myself as a coach, especially since some of the health techniques that I was using for my epilepsy would occasionally fail for myself. I took a huge step or leap backward and put my epilepsy empowerment on hold while I tried to figure out what would work for me. It is okay. I'm ready to dive back into creating content and making a profitable website. This time, the products that I am going to try selling (remember, sales was my nemesis), are products from Amazon that I actually use.
I read up on researching your niche and watched some online videos about researching before creating content. (This blog post was not researched. I will be surprised if anyone finds it and comments on it. Right now, I'm more or less journaling my adventure for you.)
I made a few key decisions about my blog. I plan on buying the domain from Godaddy because it is slightly less expensive right now than Bluehost, which I am familiar with as well. I decided that the big, expensive product that I will start reviewing is going to be a treadmill. I will be doing a fitness/ketogenic type of site. It will have reviews of products that I use in my ketogenic diet as well as reviews of fitness equipment that I use and/or know about. This will give me the opportunity to write, research, create, and promote. I will have the opportunity to promote my books as well.
I made the decision to use EasyAzon to make creating an Amazon store on my site easier. One of the reasons that I hadn't really gotten the hang of being an amazon affiliate was because it was such a chore to create an affiliate link with Amazon and flip between pages. I can see how useful the plug in of EasyAzon will make linking products to my site.
What I'm working on today will be some more keyword research, selecting a title for my site, choosing a domain and installing wordpress. I won't be doing a lot of this perfectly, but bear with me! It should be far more fun than "dialing for dollars and hearing curse words and rejection over and over. Although, yesterday, a young child pretended to be interested and told me he loved me.
That was different.
For your viewing pleasure, here is a picture of me and my brother at my book signing. It is my book, Epilepsy Empowerment. I self-published this book and quickly discovered that you lose money selling something on Amazon that wasn't published through CreateSpace. Ahh...the lessons we learn. I still have a ton of copies and if you found this blog post and want a signed copy, post a comment. I'll get in touch with you and send you one personally!
